Dr Penny Cooper

Chair of TAG

Penny was called to the Bar in 1990. In 2002 she moved into academia and became a law professor in 2009. She co- founded and chairs The Advocate's Gateway.

Penny frequently writes and researches on the subject of enhancing participation in courts and tribunals. She researched and devised the very first ground rules hearing procedures. She has taught judges and lawyers around the world and had led ground-breaking intermediary training in many jurisdictions.

She is a visiting professor at the University of London, undertaking grant-funded research with colleagues from law and related disciplines including sociology and psychology. She is also an academic associate at 39 Essex Chambers, London. Penny is a trained Advocacy tutor, experienced expert witness and former governor of the Expert Witness Institute.
