Charlotte Orrell

Charlotte (also known as ‘Charlie’) has worked as a Speech & Language Therapist since 2003. Over this time she has developed specialist experience working with children and young people with complex communication needs including autism, learning disability, and challenging behaviour.

Charlotte has also worked as a Registered Intermediary since 2008, facilitating communication with children and young people with communication needs whose evidence is required at police interview and at trial.

Charlotte was the Sussex representative on the Ministry of Justice’s Registered Intermediary Reference Team (RIRT) between 2013 and 2016. This is a stakeholder consultation group that represents the Registered Intermediary community nationally. She also acted as chair of this group between 2015 and 2016.

In 2016 Charlotte led the rewrite of the Advocate’s Gateway toolkit on questioning someone with autism.

Charlotte has written expert witness reports for the Family Courts on topics relating to autism and communication. Charlotte has trained professionals on the topics of communication, interviewing and intermediaries both nationally and internationally, including training High Court Judges in India.
