Professor Jonathan Doak

Chair of TAG

Jonathan Doak is Professor of Criminal Justice and Associate Dean for Research at Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University. He completed his LLB and doctoral studies at Queen’s University Belfast and has previously held academic positions at Durham University, the University of Sheffield, and the University of Ulster.
With a longstanding commitment to strengthening the protection and participation of vulnerable individuals within the legal system, Jonathan has published extensively in this field and served as editor of the International Journal of Evidence and Proof from 2015 to 2020 and was recently an investigator on Mapping the Changing Face of Cross-Examination, a research project examining the concept of ‘best evidence’ and the evolving nature of advocacy across the UK and Ireland. This work forms the foundation of his forthcoming book, Cross-Examination on Trial, due to be published by Bristol University Press in November 2025.
As the father of two children with autism and profound learning disabilities, Jonathan is deeply passionate about ensuring that those often marginalised in society can access the justice system on an equal footing. His advocacy reflects both his professional expertise and personal dedication to fostering a more inclusive legal framework.
